Our Holistic Approach

Looking beyond your teeth to do it right and better.

Our Holistic Philosophy

We believe that dentistry should look beyond a single tooth.

Your mouth is connected to your overall health, comfort, confidence and quality of life. When we examine your teeth, we also consider your gums, bite, airway, habits, dental materials, lifestyle and long-term risk factors.

Holistic dentistry does not mean avoiding modern dental care. To us, it means practising dentistry with more thought, precision and respect for the body.

Our goal is simple: Preserve what is natural, treat only what is necessary, and help patients make informed decisions with clarity.

We focus on minimally invasive care, prevention, biocompatible materials where suitable, and long-term maintenance so that every treatment is planned with both your oral health and overall wellbeing in mind.

  • Minimally invasive dentistry
  • Natural tooth preservation
  • Biocompatible material options
  • Root-cause focused treatment planning
  • Clear explanation before treatment
  • Gentle care for anxious patients
  • Gum health and inflammation control
  • Bite, airway and functional balance
  • Long-term prevention and maintenance
  • Respect for patient preferences

Our Treatment Philosophy

Our treatment philosophy is built around one principle: Do not over-treat, but do not under-diagnose.

We believe good dentistry starts with understanding why a problem happened in the first place. A chipped tooth, loose filling, sensitive tooth, inflamed gum or painful bite is rarely an isolated issue. It may be linked to bite forces, grinding, diet, oral hygiene, previous dental work, gum disease, airway issues, stress or material breakdown.

Before recommending treatment, we take time to assess the condition properly and explain your options clearly. Where possible, we prioritise conservative and minimally invasive solutions that preserve healthy tooth structure.

When restorative treatment is needed, we consider function, aesthetics, strength, comfort and material suitability. This may include biomimetic approaches, adhesive dentistry, tooth-coloured restorations, ceramic options, zirconia options, metal-free alternatives and careful replacement of old dental work.

Our aim is not to push patients into treatment. Our aim is to help patients understand their condition, compare their options and choose a plan that supports long-term oral health.

Our Story

The kohe™ Holistic Dental Centre, led by Dr Christine Ma, was created because kohe™ Dental wanted to build an adjacent dental experience that felt more thoughtful and whole.

Over the years, we noticed that many patients were not only afraid of dental treatment but confused by their treatments. Many could not even remember their dental and medical history.

Some had been told they needed crowns, root canals, extractions or braces without fully understanding why. Others had old dental work that kept breaking down, gum problems that were never explained properly, or dental anxiety from previous experiences.

We wanted an experience that was different.

The idea was to create a adjacent clinic to kohe™ Dental where patients could slow down, ask questions and understand what was happening in their mouth before starting treatment.

Instead of simply fixing problems one by one, we wanted our dentists to look at the bigger picture: Their past dental and medical history, their current dental health, their bite, the gums, the materials used, the lifestyle and stressors, the long-term risks and what the patient was concerned about.

Holistic dentistry became important to us because our body is directly linked to our oral health.

In fact, many patients today care deeply about what goes into their body.

They want to know whether dental materials are suitable, whether a treatment is truly necessary, whether there is a less invasive option, and whether their dental care supports their overall wellbeing.

At kohe™ Holistic Dental Centre, our role is not to make decisions for patients. It would be to guide them clearly.

We believe dentistry should be honest, carefully planned and respectful of the natural body.

That is why our approach combines modern dental technology, minimally invasive techniques and a strong emphasis on patient education.

Our philosophy is not about being alternative for the sake of being different.

It is about practising dentistry with greater awareness, better planning and a long-term view of health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is holistic dentistry?

Holistic dentistry looks at your mouth as part of your whole body.

It considers your teeth, gums, bite, diet, habits and overall health. The goal is to treat dental problems carefully while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.

It may also involve safer material choices and minimally invasive techniques where suitable.

When would I need a holistic dentist?

You may see a holistic dentist if you want a more careful and preventive approach to dental care.

This may be useful if you have gum problems, old fillings, tooth sensitivity, dental anxiety, material concerns or repeated dental issues.

It is also suitable if you want to understand the root cause before starting treatment.

What is the difference between a holistic and biological dentist?

Holistic dentists focus on how oral health connects with overall health.

Biological dentists may place stronger emphasis on material safety, biocompatibility and reducing exposure to certain substances.

Both approaches can overlap. The main idea is to treat the mouth with greater awareness of the body.

What is the difference between biomimetic dentistry and traditional dentistry?

Biomimetic dentistry tries to copy the natural structure and function of teeth. It focuses on preserving healthy tooth structure and using bonding techniques to strengthen the tooth.

Traditional dentistry may sometimes remove more tooth structure to place crowns or larger restorations.

Biomimetic dentistry is usually more conservative where suitable.

What do I need to prepare before going for a consultation with a holistic dentist?

Going for a consultation with a holistic dentist is like heading to a boutique spa. The entire experience is tweaked with you at the core.

When heading for a consultation, bring along your dental history, medical records, X-rays and a list of your concerns. Let us help to get to know you better.

Share any allergies, sensitivities or past reactions to dental materials.

Tell the dentist about your health conditions and medications. You will also be asked about your current work-life balance and existing stressors.

It also helps to write down your treatment preferences. This allows the dentist to plan more safely and clearly.
